ADULT CONTEMPORARY REP AND CONTACT IMPROV CLASSES
CONtEMPORARY REP: Thursday, December 19, 6:30-8:30pm
Ryan will be teaching this 2-hour Contemporary Repertoire class drawn from his 10 seasons with Doug Varone and Dancers.
CONTACT IMPROV: Saturday, December 21, 2:00-4:00pm
Contact Improvisation: Open to adults with all levels of contact improvisation experience, this class will help participants discover new ways of moving and creating with others. Through exercises and discussions, we will learn and analyze how bodies can ride momentum, fall together, and lift each other through space. We will prioritize listening to gravity and the people around us to create sensitive and explosive dances with others.
$30 for one class OR $50 for BOTH!
Ryan Yamauchi
was born and raised in Honolulu, Hawaii and began his dance training at the Mid-Pacific Institute School of the Arts and Queen Emma Ballet. He later moved to New York and received his BFA in Dance from SUNY Purchase. Ryan has had the pleasure of dancing with 2nd Best Dance Company, Loni Landon Dance Projects, NVA & Guests, and Sidra Bell Dance New York. He has also performed as a guest dancer with Gibney Dance Company, Santa Fe Opera, and Santa Barbara Dance Theater. Ryan has danced for 10 seasons with Doug Varone and Dancers where he is also the company's rehearsal director and has staged the company's work at universities including: SUNY Purchase, Barnard College, Adelphi University, George Mason University, and James Madison University. As a choreographer, Ryan collaborated with Hannah Garner to create an evening-length work titled Housewarming, and has been commissioned to create work for students at San Jose State University, SUNY Purchase, and The Juilliard School. Ryan is currently on faculty at SUNY Purchase, Gibney Center and Peridance Center.
